Session Details

Session 1

Title: Mobile-Enabling the Enterprise Workforce: Harnessing the Power of Java ME
Time: Wednesday, 03:00 PM
Abstract: Mobile-enabling the workforce plays a key role in efficiently running a modern-day organization. Many organizations that have implemented ERP systems and other enterprisewide information systems have failed to reap the benefits, due to the unavailability of last-mile connectivity to their field force. This session explores the key architectural challenges in implementing a mobile workforce solution and examines how Java ME was leveraged by one organization to deliver a cost-effective yet powerful and efficient mobile application to customers.

Topics covered:

  • Java ME Web services or WSA (JSR 172)
  • User interface development with LWUIT
  • On-device data persistence with RMS
  • Location-based services

Speakers: Manoj Balraj (VP – Global Business) and Sreekumar Pillai (CTO)

Session 2

Title: Memory-Optimizing Java ME Applications
Time: Wednesday, 04:30 PM
Abstract: Enterprise mobile applications often include more data-entry-intensive screens and more screen transitions than regular consumer applications. Also the data in a mobile phone is required to be in sync with the data in a back-end server. Due to the limitation in memory capacity for low-end devices, the application design must be highly optimized to avoid any out-of-memory errors during application usage.

This session closely examines the challenges and offers solutions for memory management issues, based on the experience of implementing a field force automation solution for emerging markets.

Speaker: Sreekumar Pillai (CTO)

Sreekumar had earlier presented the paper “”Mobile enabling field workforce: Harnessing the Power of Java ME”” at the JavaOne and Oracle Develop event at Hyderabad on 11th May 2011.

FieldMax, Experion’s flagship product for mobile based order management and a Java ME based application, was previously showcased by Oracle Corporation at Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in February 2011, in Barcelona, Spain.
