Experion Labs
As an organisation working on emerging technologies, we have investments in R&D to develop applications that add value to business operations or to individuals depending on the focus of our business units or business verticals. For example some of our mobile applications are built to technology enable the common man who is not so tech savy. Likewise our engineering applications are aimed at simplifying a complex environment and giving the benefits of new technology to overcome issues previously impossible. Thus our R&D initiatives and the applications that emerged have been based on analysis of engineering problems, human factors and social issues and is the prime mover for our growth.

Whilst the development of the X-track, had been involving engineering analysis, and various factory trials and testing, the mobile solution was initiated with a survey covering over 1000 personnel from different demographic backgrounds. Here are a few of our current R&D initiatives pending market release..
License plate recognition tool
The yet to be named application based on our image processing competence, we are working on the algorithms to simplify the detection of number plates – irrespective of the automobile shape and size and then to decode the registration number to assist the police, revenue authorities and any one else who needs to track the vehicles. We have succeeded to a very high degree in the picking up of the number plates under controlled conditions but yet to be accurate on reading the numbers in poor light and weather..a challenge we are pursuing still and are getting close..
Vehicle counting solution-Increment
Another image processing based application in the Experion labs is a tool to get an exact count of vehicles plying on the roads or junctions or cities. The challenge is to identify the type of vehicles and numbers at various speeds. Once developed, it would be a great tool that can assist toll collections with high degree of accuracy to support govt agencies or build operate transfer contractors to monitor subcontractors. Please refer to the beta product description in our download section.
Virtual showrooms on Deepzoom & 3D
Today high value product shops invest a lot of money to show case their products as best as they can. And the web presence is still very much ordinary , differentiated just by artwork or designs. Our R&D efforts are towards giving a web experience match that of the real world scenario whereby customers would be able to view products closer as in a beautiful showroom. This is technically possible with deepzoom technology. But can we give this virtual realism to show rooms, practically that can really help businesses with more customer visits leading to actual sales of products.? We are close to realising the fusion of 3D technologies and deepzoom on the web that can be used by retailers such as furniture shops, garment boutiques etc. Helping the customers to zoom deep into getting a close look at the quality the fabric. The advantage is that e-commerce can be facilitated better with this as customers are able to feel the products on the web. Please refer to the details of the yet to be released product, code named 'Insight' in the download section.
Speed Regulator - Reference design
This reference design from Experion demonstrates a fully functional speed regulator for automobiles. The maximum allowed speed can be set through an external switch and the system measures the engine speed and controls the actuator to limit the speed of vehicle to the maximum value.
Features:
8-bit PIC Microcontroller based design
Easily adaptable to any types of engines
Smooth actuator control through PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)
Speed control through DIP switch setting
Spot no
With all the modern techniques available to analyse fouls, there are still controversies that still arise during many international matches leading to controversies of varying degrees. One of the key issues where no effective solution has been devised is to detect chucking real time.
Problems of chucking
Disputes and controversies of varying nature come up on chucking without a real solution
Highly successful bowlers normally come under scrutiny and get branded as chuckers..(eg  Muthaiah M, Shoaib Akthar, Harbajan)
This can get into controversies on racism riding on the money power of the sports clubs
No scientific tools for bowler coaching sessions to detect and correct chucking, except rely on the experience of the coaches
Disconnect between offline verification and acquittal of suspected bowlers. No method to find out whether they chuck in a real match
The disputes and controversies can be very expensive for the clubs resulting in unproductive drain on valuable time of cricket experts
Spot no! - Solution features
Spot no! is a very highly accurate and precise tool to detect the arm angle at the time of ball delivery
Instantaneous detection of chucking – live
The shape of the arm and size does not matter, the bone structure and arm contouring analysed by the computer
Easy angle configuration to tighten the training or to accommodate to changing international rules on chucking angle
Based on scientifically identifying the hand, ball and arm angle at the time of delivery
Based on contour  detection algorithm
Can integrate with most video cameras
Technique
Skin Segmentation
Edge detection to detect the ball
Hand Detection
Region identification
Hough Transformation
3D analysis
Spot a no! application is built on top of our proprietary image processing engine, Ximager™
ISO 9001:2008 Certified
